Introduction

Vijayans  Laboratory for Polymeric Biomaterials is located in the Biomedical Engineering Department of Alabama State University. The major activities of the lab focuses on the design and engineering of different polymeric biomaterials which includes but not limited to hydrogels, 3D printed polymer scaffolds, nanogels and polymer-nanoparticle composites. The application of these functional polymeric biomaterials are towards a wide range of biomedical applications such as  Tissue Engineering, Drug Delivery, Cancer Theranostic and 3D bioprinting.  Another important research focus of the lab is the plasma surface modification of polymeric biomaterials. Such an hybrid approach of combining the engineering of novel polymeric biomaterials and the development of novel plasma surface engineering methods makes it possible to tailor both the bulk and surface properties of polymeric biomaterials for a wide range of biomedical applications.
